Formed in early 2008, Upbeats Percussion was the brainchild of its 5 founding members. They envisioned a percussion group like no other; one that would blow away the nation of Singapore with its funky rhythms and thumping beats. Passion is the primary driving force behind the Upbeats, for we believe it is passion for the music that drives any band, be it percussion or otherwise, to success. With its members numbering up to 12, and all with backgrounds as colourful as their musical genre of choice, the distance between Upbeats Percussion and success don’t seem to be too far apart. Our objective is to create rhythms from our young creative minds and putting it into grooving beats. We’re a light-hearted bunch, and so is our music. Keeping samba rhythms as the basis of our compositions, we take our cues from the different types of Brazilian percussion - be it Samba, Samba-Reggae or Maracatu – and we mash ‘em up to create a totally unique sound that we want to be known for.
